GOT A SWEET TOOTH?

chocolate-cakeGot a sweet tooth or are all your teeth sweet?  Can’t pass up on that new bag of Lay’s Light potato chips?

Whether you live to eat or eat to live, a new year brings our minds to a fresh start; healthier, happier, less stress.

As a Master Hypnotist, I see that stress is the number one cause of sugar and yes, salt addictions.  And, of course, the more we are stressed the more we eat.  I think of it as looking for the sweetness in life.

Yes, we eat when we are unhappy, sad, depressed, lonely, anxious, angry, as well as when we are happy! “What can we eat to celebrate?”

The more you try to stop, the more your taste buds remember just how much they crave its deliciousness and how much better you’ll feel with just one…bite.

I mean, if you’ve opened the bag of chips, you might as well finish it. Or, just one cookie becomes the first row of cookies in the tray…or two.

Does just talking about it make your mouth water?

Perhaps, you stay away from it all day, only to binge on all things sweet or salty once you’ve finished dinner.

It’s just a habit and habits can be changed permanently.

We all know the reasons to take control of our habits; weight gain, obesity, depression and heart disease, but it doesn’t happen just by knowing consciously.

Change your habit and you change your life, easily and effortlessly.

HEALING THROUGH HYPNOSIS

Mary in sessionHealing Through Hypnosis
Interview of Master Hypnotist, Mary McCandless,

Cobourg Centre for Hypnosis and Natural Healing,

by Elizabeth Palermo,The Link, Winter Solstice 2016

The idea of being hypnotized tends to evoke images of people seated on a stage, falling asleep to a count of three and then doing something embarrassing. That’s showbiz of course. Despite being exploited for entertainment, hypnosis helps many people lose weight, stop smoking, overcome anxieties and fears, and manage pain. It can work for almost anyone and any age.

The key to hypnotherapy is establishing trust with a certified hypnotist who creates the right setting for relaxation and focused attention. Mary McCandless is a Master Hypnotist living and working in Cobourg who will spend up to two hours initially getting to know a client. “Sometimes you meet someone and say, ‘Oh yeah, they get me.’ They have a similar language,” says the 64-year-old who’s formerly from Toronto and is also a Reiki Master.

“You can’t change the story, but you can close the book…”

A certified hypnotist guides a process of quieting the mind so the client will consider suggestions that enable releasing what holds them back. It’s not about intellectualizing why the client is feeling a certain way, but using special exercises where people can let the old storyline go. “Hypnosis is reframing and retraining the subconscious mind,” says McCandless, explaining the subconscious stores old feelings and emotions – usually imprinted on the psyche from a very young age – like books lining shelf after shelf in a library. “You can’t change the story, but you can close the book so it no longer affects you.”

It’s not uncommon for people to think they’ll fall asleep or lose control and cluck like a chicken when hypnotized! Rather, many hypnotherapy clients come into a heightened state of awareness that allows self-exploration and healing. “It’s impossible to change habits without a quiet mind,” says McCandless. “I’ll begin with something like a guided meditation: ‘Follow your breath. Begin to notice where you’re holding tension. Relax that…’ and the person uses their very powerful mind to relax.”

When McCandless works with people recovering from surgery and in great pain “We find a way for them to relax and then positive suggestions can be given: ‘I am in control. My body is healing itself easily and effortlessly. I am healthy and happy. Each day I get better and better,’” she says. “I think of the subconscious as where the diaphragm is – your intuition, your gut, where the ‘fight or flight’ instinct resides, the solar plexus, your inner home. Sometimes we have to clean it out. I call it dumping the junk. Letting it go.”

For Nancy Smale of Castleton, hypnosis has helped her lose more than 40 pounds. She has struggled her whole life to keep weight off and now in retirement has kept the weight off for two years – her longest ever. “We worked a lot in the beginning on self- esteem and past emotional stuff, and then as we got going we worked with food and weight loss.” Hypnosis changed everything for Smale, who listens to recordings of her sessions at home.

Not feeling good enough consumes so much of our collective psyche experience – and the best suggestion, the sincerest message we can give others, especially children, McCandless says is, “You can do anything you focus on. It completely overrides the ‘I’m not good enough.’”

Can’t sleep? Suffering from insomnia? Eliminate insomnia and Sleep Like a Baby. A Natural Remedy for Sweet Dreams, this meditative self-hypnosis CD was created to help you quiet your mind, let go of the stress and tension of the day and fall asleep easily and effortlessly. Sleep soundly through the night naturally, awakening feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Does it work?  Absolutely!

After suffering a for a large portion of my large with sleeping issues and trying just about everything out there, I took a chance on Mary’s sleep hypnosis CD, Sleep Like a Baby. Figured it was worth a try. She warned me that that it would likely be a couple of weeks before I would see the results, but within the first week I was already sleeping better. And it continued to get better, just through listening everyday when I went to bed. If I got up to the bathroom, I simply hit play again before laying down again. I’ve also noticed a couple of wonderful side effects, besides being almost completely off sleeping medication, my migraines (which I have suffered from for over 20 years several times a month and in times several times a week) have severely declined, and my energy level is much higher. I may still not want to cut the grass, but I now have the energy to do so. Her voice is incredible to listen to and the track is only about 20 minutes and what a wonderful solution to what seems to be a lifelong issue. I used to dread going to sleep, figuring that it was simply a waste of time since I wouldn’t sleep anyways. Now I can’t wait to go to sleep. So very grateful to Mary for her help.  MLS

Self-Hypnosis refers to a safe, peaceful, meditative state in which positive suggestions are introduced into your subconscious mind. This can literally change your thoughts, feelings, perceptions and how you behave and react.

Simply sit quietly and listen to this guided meditation at least once a day for 21 days or even as you are preparing for sleep. Gently, positively, effectively, your life will change. All you have to do is listen.

I travel a lot with my job and often I can’t fall asleep in an unfamiliar place. My mind keeps replaying the same things over and over again. I tried everything. Nothing helped. I Skyped with Mary and she helped me fall asleep easily and remain asleep throughout the night. Her voice is warm and comforting and now, I take her with me wherever I go. Her Sleep Like a Baby CD does the trick every time. LL

Hypnosis for Smoking Cessation

MasterHealer_Traycard_2015_SmokeFree[1]

If you have tried everything to quit smoking, nicotine patches, lozenges, chewing gum, counselling, acupuncture and other smoking cessation methods, don’t give up yet!

Hypnosis for smoking cessation has been proven to be one of the most effective methods in helping people eliminate the habit and quit smoking.

Hypnosis involves creating a state of complete relaxation or trance from which focused concentration, heightened awareness and suggestibility helps the client accept the hypnotist’s directions. As a result, these “suggestions” remain with you and through repetition, your self-control and willpower is strengthened as you achieve your goal of being smoke free.

Completely safe, studies have proven hypnosis is one of the most effective methods that help people eliminate the habit and quit smoking, enabling them to live a healthier and longer life.

According to Health Canada, “Quit smoking and you’ll start feeling better within 24 hours. The minute you stop smoking, your body will begin cleansing itself of tobacco toxins. Two days after you quit, your risk of heart attack will start decreasing and that’s just the beginning.”

Become smoke free for life through hypnosis! Not only will you save a bag of money, you’ll have more time to spend it.

Experience Fibromyalgia Pain Relief With Hypnosis

CDSelf esteem

The never ending pain of Fibromyalgia can be overwhelming and if you haven’t ever experienced it, be thankful. It takes all of the joy out of your life. This continuing chronic disorder is recognized as widespread pain in the neck, spine, upper back, joints and knees, shoulders and arms and can be totally debilitating, physically and emotionally. Some report that it feels as if it’s moving from one place to another in the body.

As a Master Hypnotist, my experience has shown that hypnosis is indeed the perfect way to help reduce your stress, which is believed to increase production of the stress hormone, cortisol, increasing sensitivity to pain.

The deep relaxation experienced from hypnosis is excellent for reducing your body’s pain, regardless of the origin and increases a sense of comfort in your body, while improving your mood, naturally.

Fibromyalgia pain often causes sleep disorders, morning stiffness, irritable bowel syndrome and anxiety and although it is not the same as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the symptoms may be similar.

Hypnosis will help you feel instant relief by lowering your chronic pain levels, enabling you to feel more peaceful, calm and relaxed, energized and ready to face the day.

Overcome Fear with Hypnosis

Jaws

I love the ocean and everything about it; swimming in it, feeling the spray on my skin, hearing the sound of the waves, seeing the endless colours or just breathing it in. And having spent the last month in the Hawaiian Islands, I am reminded of my very first experience with hypnosis.

I was newly married and visiting my husband’s family in Ann Arbour, Michigan, for the first time. Anxious to fit in, when it was suggested we should all see one of the most popular movies of the summer, I agreed. It wasn’t until we were approaching the theatre that I realized the movie was Jaws.

I had seen the trailers with severed limbs floating down through the water and I knew myself well enough to know that this was definitely NOT for me. After much cajoling, I gave in to peer pressure. From the beginning, I knew it was a mistake. For me, it was indeed off the chart horrifying.

The day after the movie, it was decided we should go for a swim in the lake. As the others rushed ahead, I found myself exceeding anxious about going into the water. Willing myself in, my feet attempted to move through the uneven floor of muck, seaweed, old pieces of wood and discarded bottles, which only increased my anxiety. Again, my new “friends” told me I was being silly. There definitely was nothing to be afraid of, especially in Lake Michigan. I could not be convinced.

Later that summer, I found myself in the office of a Hypnotist. I don’t really remember how this came about or who he was. However, after a few exercises to engage my imagination and quiet my conscious mind, I was ready.

It all seemed pretty easy. And, as I became more and more relaxed, positive suggestions were introduced to help me overcome my fear. I left the session feeling peaceful, calm and hopeful. The next time I visited the lake, I managed to get down the stairs on the dock and touch the water, but was still extremely frightened.

After two more visits to the hypnotherapist, I was able to not only enter the water, but swim. All in all, hypnosis became an extremely positive experience, one that enabled me to return to something I loved.

As a Master Hypnotist, I’ve had the opportunity to help others overcome their fears or phobias. All real, all terrifying; from dentists and needles, heights and flying, dying and sleeping, claustrophobia and panic attacks, public speaking and fear of success, and yes, even fear of terrorism.

My own experience and that of my clients, continues to fuel my enthusiasm for helping people heal naturally through hypnosis.

And as for Jaws, I say “Bite me.”

Let Love In…with Hypnosis

MiniBlogHearts

At some time in our lives, we create a protective wall around us because we have been hurt and are afraid. We create a mask to prevent people from seeing how wounded or vulnerable we actually are. We are afraid others will find we’re “not worthy” or “loveable” And, we begin to believe what we tell ourselves.

These feelings are based on irrational fear, so we push others away. We like to give the impression we are strong, confident and in control of our lives and we “don’t need anybody, thank you very much”.

From time to time, the mask may begin to slip, because holding it in place is exhausting.

No matter how long you have lived with this habit or pattern of telling yourself you’re not “good enough”, now it’s time to reconnect with the inner goodness you were born with and celebrate your innate capacity to love and “be loved”.

Through hypnosis, anything is possible. And when you’re ready, I can help you.

In Control of Incontinence ~ With Hypnosis

Incontinence. There, I’ve said it. It’s hard to talk about an overactive bladder, let alone experience it.

Although times have changed from when such things were not discussed, incontinence still remains a bit of a taboo.

For a while now, you have been concerned about a problem you have had with incontinence and this has caused you great embarrassment and inconvenience. You think you’re the only one, but in truth, the loss of bladder control is quite common, especially as women get older.

It may range from dripping, occasionally leaking urine, not only when coughing unexpectedly or heaven forbid, sneezing! Or, having it creep up on you when you are away from home (perhaps standing at the bank machine) and a tidal wave hits and you are trying to be … so still, holding your breath, clenching, unable to move, let alone find a bathroom.

Is there a cure for incontinence, other than medication and invasive surgery? Is there a natural remedy to overcome your urinary incontinence, other than strengthening the pelvic floor muscles? Absolutely!

The British Medical Journal indicated that 86% of women with overactive bladders who participated in a recent study reported that after repeated sessions of hypnotherapy, their symptoms had disappeared completely or considerably improved. In other words, hypnosis was a successful treatment for 86% of the participants in the study.

Hypnosis refers to a natural peaceful, meditative state of focused concentration in which positive suggestions are introduced into your subconscious mind. Within this state, the subconscious mind is easily accessed to directly effect change at a very deep level. This can literally change your thoughts, feelings, perceptions, habits and how you behave and react in any situation.

Learning how to access your own inner healing resources will enable you to find a way of controlling your bladder and begin to heal your body on all levels.

Hypnosis has been shown to be safe, gentle and effective. From day one, you will experience lasting, positive changes in your stress and your confidence. Your mind will become calmer and clearer, you will feel happier and healthier, releasing stress and anxiety and restoring confidence in yourself and in control of your bladder.

Hypnosis Re-Educates the Subconscious Mind

Healing Through Hypnosis

By Catherine Hawley, Women Without Offices
From: www.northumberlandtoday.com

Is hypnosis a viable treatment to help overcome fears, pain or other problems in life? According to Mary McCandless, Certified Master of Clinical Hypnosis, absolutely. The benefits one can experience from hypnosis can be life altering. Hypnosis refers to a peaceful state of mind or a meditative state in which the conscious mind is quieted and the subconscious mind becomes open to positive suggestions which can, literally, change your thoughts, feelings, perceptions and behaviors. Hypnosis has many practical applications for anxiety, trauma, habit control, self-esteem, performance anxiety, recovery and more. I believe that when we use the power of our minds, we can do anything.

A warm, engaging and compassionate woman, with an infectious laugh and an innate sensitivity, McCandless strives to help people use the power of their mind to experience positive, lasting changes in life. And she takes her profession very seriously, saying “Unfortunately, misconceptions about hypnosis are rampant. This is definitely not a parlour game, nor an entertainment event. One does not lose control while in a trance, nor would you do anything you wouldn’t normally do.

She speaks from both experience and education. Her personal interest in hypnosis was a natural evolution. During her lengthy and successful career as a professional actress and singer in musical theatre, she realized she had a special gift for helping people to heal. Studying and practicing in several healing modalities eventually led her to explore hypnosis to overcome her own fear of water. And the rest, as they say “is history”.

McCandless studied to become a Consulting Hypnotist and a Licensed Clinical Hypnotist through the National Guild of Hypnotists, each of which required a great deal of study and practical work, as well as providing very detailed case studies. Later she went on to become a Master Hypnotist and a Certified Hypnosis Instructor. It was a by-chance turn off the highway that brought her to Cobourg initially. She experienced such an affinity to the area that she decided to relocate from Toronto and open her home office on Albert Street, which she refers to as “Here, at the end of the rainbow”.

Some of the most common goals her clients arrive with include overcoming fears, eliminating anxieties and phobias, smoking cessation and dealing with weight Issues. “Often though,” she explains, “people come to me to work on one thing, but find that, through the process, other issues surface. Most often these ‘others’ are subconscious issues.

The theory of hypnosis is that many of the problems people struggle with have a subconscious base. Changing unwanted habits involves changing behavior patterns, but the subconscious also needs to learn ‘positive’ patterns and unlearn ‘stress’ patterns. Hypnosis re-educates the subconscious to feel, think and solve problems in healthier ways, and is extremely valuable for children too, helping them to improve concentration, develop self confidence, overcome bedwetting and many more concerns.”

Pediatric Hypnosis

Hypnosis for Children

Children work very well with hypnosis and creative visualization, especially the younger ones. They already understand the world of imagination and they experience their world through colours, pictures, and daydreaming easily achieving the relaxed state necessary to work with the subconscious mind.

Children learn what they live. Anxiety and lack of self-esteem experienced in childhood can have a lasting effect on the rest of their lives. Stress abounds in our ever-changing world and pediatric hypnosis is an effective way to stabilize your child in her/his development, helping them to grow into healthy and happy individuals.

Some of the applications of Pediatric Hypnosis will help them to outgrow night time bed-wetting (enuresis), regardless of their age, while building confidence and self-esteem. Hypnosis for children is excellent for those who experience “bullying” at school.

Behaviour modification and letting go of habits is also helped significantly through hypnosis with children.

Learning skills such as focusing in school, enhanced memory, instilling a sense on motivation, releasing fear and feeling confident about examinations and tests are all possible through Pediatric Hypnosis.

Learning issues associated with ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) is normally treated by the medical profession with drugs, sometimes controversially, too much so. We are quick to label a child who is different. However, there are also some natural alternatives available.

Hypnosis can help teach focusing tools, reinforce social skills, build up self-esteem, manage anxiety symptoms associated with ADD/ADHD and manage anger.

Alleviating performance anxiety related to sports and special skills, are also achievable through hypnosis.

Hypnosis for children is also effective in helping with insomnia or night anxiety (fear of the dark, monsters, etc.) which may keep them from going to sleep. It is also excellent for helping them overcome other fears (medical or dental visits and preparing them for needles).

Children will also benefit from hypnosis as changes in their lives occur; changes in living space, family separation, first day of school, new schools, puberty, etc.

Children’s issues can involve a wide range of significant “others” in their lives; parents, siblings, rivals, teachers, etc.

As a Master Clinical Hypnotist, I teach children self-hypnosis or self-relaxation which helps them feel in control. I also provide a short reinforcement CD for play at bedtime, instilling the foundation that, I can do anything.
